Every year approximately 180, 000 foreign workers come to Canada to fulfil the skill shortage in Canada. This may provide a suitable opportunity to enter the Canadian labor market and later explore the possibilities of becoming a contributing member of the Canadian economy.

Employer Specific -Closed Work Permit

Closed Work Permit- First the employer must acquire LMIA from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), once approved the foreign worker may apply for a work permit to IRCC.

Open Work Permits

Work for any employer, anywhere in Canada. You may be eligible for an open work permit if you are in one of the following situations:

  • Permanent residence applicants who have applied to an office in Canada,

  • Dependent family members of some permanent residence applicants,

  • Spouses and common-law partners of some workers and international students,

  • Refugees, refugee claimants, protected persons and their family members,

  • Some temporary resident permit holders, or

  • Some young workers participating in special programs.

*In each of these situations, you must meet additional criteria to be eligible.
